About the Author

Darian Andre’ Williams, (November 5 1979 - ), was born the third child of Dwight, a retired laborer and Bobbie Williams, a retired nurse I learn the value of hard work, loyalty, commitment and dedication to both family and a career. The youngest of three boys (Dwight and Dewayne Williams), I have always been a big dreamer and unique individual at least that’s what I grew to believe. I was raised in the church. I credit the solid foundation to the leadership of Rev. Robert Alexander Jr. and the Faithful Few Baptist Church family, were I learn the basics about church, God, and how important it was to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. As a young boy growing up in Birmingham Alabama I had plenty of opportunities to go the wrong route and get involve with the wrong crowd. My mother thought that it would be best that my brothers and I attend a magnet school, and therefore she sent us on the other side of town to Going Elementary and Huffman Middle School. The schools did not have a team sports program at the time, but I was presented with an opportunity to play sports via the Crestwood Youth Football Team, YMCA basketball team and the Martin Luther King Recreation Center where I spent most of my youth, to take me away from the environment. I had coaches that believe in God and told us we were going to be something and that we where destine for greatness. I would spend my summers playing AAU Basketball and traveling every summer. Woodlawn High School was the next stop in the journey where I begin to excel in both the classroom and on the court. Top ten in the class, a three sport athlete (Football, Basketball, and track) I thought I was God’s Gift to sports. The confidence grew but I really didn’t know how to express myself. I would bottle all my anger, frustration, and any problems I had and explode on the court. My mom always said I need to find a way to relieve my stress and talk to someone about my problems. Though I receive about every award you could receive as a student athlete, at the end of my senior year I still did not have a college scholarship. Frustrated and confused I was clueless to what I was going to do with my future. I was invited to attend this summer Christian project that would change my luck and most importantly my life. It was an eight week camp where we put on basketball camps for the kids in the community and we were in camp ourselves. There in those small group huddles I began to really express my feelings with God. I couldn’t understand why He would take my grandmother, why I would experience the death of about 4 relatives in a two year span, and on top of that no scholarship. I ask God a few questions that summer and He responded more than I could ever think or imagine. Al Joyner, I call him my other dad, showed up at my family’s house with a Hope and dream. He was offering to be my mentor and presented me with an academic scholarship to Tuskegee University. He showed me another side of life that young kids from the hood don’t always get exposed to. He was a successful business owner, family man, and very generous to my family. His father H.L. became the grandfather I never had. His children became the younger siblings that I want and his wife became like another mother to me. While at Tuskegee University, I was blessed with an opportunity to walk on and play college basketball for two years and I received a B.A. of Architecture Degree in 2004. Before graduations I was able to work at Willie Oliver Architect firm for three years where I learn the basic to really owning your own company and both Willie Oliver and Al Joyner showed me that it was more than owning your business and making money, but it’s about making a difference by reaching back into the community and helping the next young person get out of the hood and on track to a brighter future. After playing two years I got another opportunity to work with great men as a student assistant coach for both the Tuskegee men and women’s basketbal
