As Rachel and her Aunt Evie participate in Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee, their thoughts go back 25 years to an earlier jubilee celebration, when 10-year-old Jessamy (Rachel’s cousin and Evie’s daughter) disappeared without a trace. Narrator Anne Dover moves back and forth in time, realistically portraying people as they age and times change. Although the cast is large, Dover depicts each character with distinction. Her best characters, by far, are the young (and then older) cousins whose love for each other never wavers and is apparent in her warm rendering. Intrigue is added to the story by using important historical events, including WWII, to follow recurring characters to a surprising and painful conclusion. S.G.B. © AudioFile 2012, Portland, Maine
