Overview

Remembered for his 1949 hit "I Never See Maggie Alone," Kenny Roberts' true distinction is that he was one of the most spectacular yodelers in the history of country & western music. He made the country Top 40 only four times, and three of those hits are included on this 29-track import, which covers 1949-1957. The material ranges from boogies and novelties to teen-oriented pop and rock & roll, but the most impressive tracks are the yodeling showcases, particularly "She Taught Me How to Yodel." Although it would have been nice if Bear Family had squeezed Roberts' 1949 hit version of "Jealous Heart" onto this already-packed disc, Jumpin' & Yodelin' is unlikely to be surpassed in terms of quality and content, unless Roberts receives the box-set treatment. ~ Greg Adams
