Overview

In the United States of America we are fortunate to live in the greatest civilization that the world has ever known in all of human history. This is not just economically but in terms of fairness, equality, and freedom as well. In fact it is due to our principles that we have enjoyed such overwhelming economic success. In the past few decades we have started to move away from these principles…the principles of freedom, equality, and justice for all. This is largely happening from an “Us versus Them” or more specifically a “Liberal versus Conservative” narrative. The real narrative should be “Liberty for All” versus “Tyranny.” That is ultimately what really matters. In reality the overlying label from which tyranny is brought forth, be it Liberal or Conservative, is irrelevant. As a nation, America must wake up from being enamored with this Liberal versus Conservative paradigm and get back to the fundamental principles that do matter. It is to the extent that we have abandoned these principles (as well as abandoning just plain common sense) that is causing of the vast majority of problems that we have in our country today. It has gotten to the point that this abandonment of principles is becoming a major threat to this great nation, and “We the People” can feel it…we can sense it. In recent polls 80% of US citizens feel the country is moving in the wrong direction. If the cause of these problems is our abandonment of these principles then the solution to these problems can be found in returning completely and unabashedly to these principles. In this book are a set of ideas, positions, and statements using these principles and common sense to guide us to solutions to the most pressing national problems which face us today. Solutions which will ultimately start moving the country back in the right direction to a place where joy and prosperity reigns, justice rules, and where freedom of the people is throughout the land.

About the Author

Dr. Gilliland is a physician who lives and works in northwest Missouri. He grew up in the small western Kansas town of Liberal, Kansas and is the only son of a high school biology teacher and a stay at home mom. He has traveled throughout Europe including a trip to Greece in December of 2008 when the Greek riots due to their government debt crisis and the necessary austerity reforms were just breaking out. More recently he has traveled to South Africa. He has lived in multiple parts of the United States during his medical training. During his medical training Dr. Gilliland noted that ultimately we apply common sense to the complex sciences of medicine and engineering because that is what works. As a society we fail to apply common sense to the much more fundamental and simple concepts of our human nature and how we construct our government and society. Likewise in all his travels he noted that it is the principles of freedom of the people, equality, and justice for all that have benefited America so much and made the United States relatively more successful than other nations. It is out of the great concern that our country is now forsaking these great principles in the name of partisan politics that this book was written.
