It's common to see people order multiple appetizers and an entree only to finish half their plate
and throw the rest away. Or to see people fill their trash with almost everything in their fridge
because they didn't eat it in time. In a society where we have food at our disposal and do not
have to think twice about what is for dinner, it is difficult to imagine what life would look like to
live in constant fear that you will not be able to put food on the table and that your child may
have severe health problems as a result. Well this is a reality that about half the world faces
every single day. Almost four billion people across the globe live on less than $2.50 a day, and
689 million live in extreme poverty, surviving on less than $1.90 a day. This is even more
prevalent in developing countries, in which nearly half the population lives below the poverty
line (Peer).
