Overview

The book is a labor of love by a very warm-hearted and congenial man named Lucas Anthony Dedrick. It is being published posthumously as he left us after fighting months' long battle with metastatic renal cell carcinoma. The short stories are packed with emotional rollercoasters that depict the struggles and achievements of people stricken with misery, loss, death, and ghastly premonitions.
In all of the stories, Lucas beautifully threads together a tale of marginalized men and women who are trying to find their way in the societal labyrinth as individuals belonging to the LGBTQ community which is ever-growing by the day, kudos to their persistent bravado.

About the Author

Lucas Anthony Dedrick was born on 31 August 1959 in Wichita, Kansas. He was the second of five sons born to Lorna (nee Cunningham) and Larry Dedrick. He attended Catholic grade school and junior high school and graduated from Wichita East High School. After graduating from Wichita State University in May 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English, he moved first briefly to Florida, then to Washington, D.C. While in Washington, D.C., he worked for the National Endowment for the Arts and met his life partner, George Michael Cuesta, Ph.D., in 1984. They moved to San Francisco for 10 years from 1987 to 1997, where George completed his doctorate degree and Lucas completed a second Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing in December 1992. In August 1997, they returned to the East Coast and moved to New York City where Lucas worked in several different nursing homes as a Quality Assurance Coordinator, Assistant Director of Nursing, and Director of Nursing. Lucas loved working with, helping, and serving the elder residents in nursing homes. He also loved writing and was an avid photographer. He and his life partner were passionate world travelers. Sadly, Lucas passed away on 06 July 2020 after a 5-month battle with metastatic renal cell carcinoma. He was preceded in death by his Dad, Larry Dedrick, his brother, Will, his Aunt Sandy Cunningham, and his Aunt Barbara. His survivors include his life partner of nearly 36 years, George Michael Cuesta, his mother, Lorna Dedrick, brothers Eric (Cheryl), Kurt (Lisa), and Matt (Vickie), Uncle Watty and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
