Janet Delk Roberts was born in Maury County, Tennessee, and grew up on the family farm.
Her maternal grandparents resided nearby in the Hickman County community of Shady Grove located at Duck River. Her grandfather's family were early settlers to that community. Roberts spent many weekends and summers visiting her grandparents, nearby cousins and friends and attending church at Shady Grove.
When her grandfather died in the middle 1960's, he was buried at the Stand Cemetery located at Shady Grove.
In the late 1980’s when her father died, he was, also, buried at the Stand Cemetery.
In Roberts' spare time, she began clearing the old section of the Stand Cemetery where her great-great grandparents and her 3x great grandmother are buried. In addition, she took over the care of the family plots. During this time, she photographed and recorded other cemeteries, but the Stand remained close to her heart. It was during this time that Roberts began researching her family’s history and collecting family photographs.
In 2001 Roberts and her husband renovated and moved to her grandparents’ home. She continued researching her family’s history and collecting photographs, but began, also, researching the history of Shady Grove and collecting photographs pertaining to the Shady Grove Community. Her collection of photographs now number in the thousands.
A few years ago, she and her husband retired from owning their retail floral business. With the Stand Cemetery just minutes from her home, her love for, work at and devotion to the Stand intensified. Roberts published
Keeping their Memories Alive- Burials at the Stand Cemetery to honor all the ones who lived before and now rest beneath the soil of The Stand.
Roberts and her husband continue to enjoy living at Shady Grove. She enjoys working with the local historical society and assisting individuals with their research.
Roberts now has six generations of her family buried at The Stand. In 2022 she was named Historian for the Stand Cemetery.
