Overview

You Can Destroy What Steals Your Strength
Just like Superman, who can leap over any hurdle and defeat every foe, followers of Christ have the supernatural ability to conquer the challenges we face. But the problem for both Superman and us is there's a kryptonite that steals our strength.
Of course, both Superman and kryptonite are fictional. But spiritual kryptonite is not.
This book offers answers to why so many people-and the churches they attend-are unable to experience the divine strength that was evident among the first-century Christians.
In Killing Kryptonite, John Bevere reveals what this kryptonite is, why it's compromising our churches, and how to break free from its bondage.
Not for the faint of heart, Killing Kryptonite is anything but a spiritual sugar high. This is serious truth for any Christ-follower who longs to embrace the challenging but rewarding path of transformation.

Bevere (The Bait of Satan), Christian minister and cofounder of the missionary organization Messenger International, fills this insightful book with the allurements and powerful effects of sin. Likening sin to kryptonite (the otherworldly substance that could hurt Superman), Bevere surveys the current religious scene and worries that churches and their leaders are not sufficiently equipping members to confront the dangers of modernity and the ever-increasing enticements of the world. Among those dangers, he cites wealth and greed, divorce, corruption, inaction, idolatry, and intolerance. Chapters are short and meant to be read in one sitting. Each is followed by a “Take Action” section for integrating Bevere’s principles into everyday life; these include suggested prayers and prompts for contemplation on life. God is “looking for those who will stand and speak against the sins that are working to fill our churches today,” Bevere writes. He is uncompromising in his strong, orthodox opposition to he perceives as the erosion of Christian standards in the modern church. He clearly wants to be among those answering the call against sin as he implores others in the Christian community to join him. If creeping compromise is indeed the kryptonite of the modern church, then Bevere stands on solid ground in his passion for holiness and purity. This accessible book will invigorate Christians. James Robison

"“Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves!” (2 Cor. 13:5 NASB). My close friend John Bevere is wisely encouraging people to do this. Too often those who are a part of church life have substituted membership for the transformation that comes with a truly personal relationship with Christ. Nothing is a greater indication of a spiritual birth than recognizing that the Spirit of Jesus is in us, and we can’t escape that reality or relationship."

—James Robison, Founder and President, LIFE Outreach International in Fort Worth, Texas

Robert Morris

"John Bevere is a practical, relevant, modern-day prophet who shows us how to overcome sin by grace that empowers. In his new book, Killing Kryptonite, he reveals how we all have kryptonite in our lives that can only be overcome by the love of God. Thanks be to God for giving John this revelation!"

—Robert Morris, Founding Senior Pastor, Gateway Church, Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas and Best-selling author ofThe Blessed Life, The God I Never Knew,Truly Free, andFrequency

Andy Dalton

"John Bevere’s Killing Kryptonite reveals areas that could be holding us back from living out God’s calling for us. This book challenges and encourages us to experience God’s divine nature and power in our lives."

—Andy Dalton, Quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals, National Football League

Brian Johnson

"John is honestly one of my top three writers. If I were to hand my four children a stack of books to read, study, and live by, John’s books would be at the top of that list. Killing Kryptonite is not soft, watered down, or unclear! I believe this book has the potential to change the course of the church in this day and age. It is one I would consider an anchor and a lifeline for this specific generation that is facing so much uncertainty. The way John brings clarity for what love and truth are is a lifesaver!"

—Brian Johnson, President of Bethel Music and Worship University (WorshipU) and Worship Pastor for Bethel Church

Christine Caine

Killing Kryptoniteexposes the enemy’s greatest ploy to steal your strength and keep you from your destiny. In this book, John will challenge you to be aware of the enemy and equip you to fight back with the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. You don’t want to miss this one.

—Christine Caine, Founder, A21 and Propel Women

Bill Johnson

"As great as John Bevere’s books have been, this one will catch many by surprise. It’s not that he strays from his unique ability to address vital issues. It’s quite the opposite. The grace upon his life to be profoundly relevant is refined even more in this writing. What will surprise many is how he uncovers something that’s right under our noses, but goes completely unnoticed. He brings to light our ignorance of the sin of idolatry.

To say this book is needed is a great understatement. Killing Kryptonite is essential reading for believers in this day and age. One of the great strengths of John’s message is his insight into the tragic domino effect that this sin has on our family lines and our impact on the world around us. All of life is crippled when we ignore this issue.

On the other hand, should we heed the instructions given on these pages, we just might end up in another reformation that we all ache for. Read with the anticipation of personal and corporate reformation."

—Bill Johnson, Bethel Church, Redding, CA and author of God is Good

MARCH 2018 - AudioFile

This audiobook is really a modern adaptation of the Puritan classic THE MORTIFICATION OF SIN. Bevere urgently explains that we must destroy that which kills the strongest of people. Though there are some interpretation concerns and charismatic leanings in this work, every discerning Christian would do well to hear Bevere’s message, delivered in a tone of pastoral concern. He obviously has the gift of oration, as he knows when to quicken and slow his pace and raise or lower his voice. Listening to Bevere read this important work leaves you riveted and wanting to know how you too can kill the kryptonite in your life. T.D. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine
