LA Lessons: Life in Eight Parts
This work was inspired by my interactions with a young Hispanic male who sold flowers at the bottom of a busy off ramp on the 405 freeway in Los Angeles. Although I never learned his name or anything about his personal life, I watched him every day and developed this fictional account. It is my wish to encourage everyone to open their hearts to the life challenges of others, most especially those who are not of our own race or social background. Free from judgement, I feel we can make our world a more peaceful place. I hope we all learn.

About the Author

I was born in Inglewood California and lived for many years in various LA neighborhoods, most recently in Van Nuys where I was immersed in Hispanic culture. As one of the few Anglos in the neighborhood, I was treated to a world of sights, smells and sounds that was at once foreign and intriguing to me. I learned so much from my daily interactions and am pleased to share this small fictionalized portrait of someone who touched my heart.
