Description: This book is intended to prepare RN-BSNs and RN-MSNs for leadership and management in the healthcare setting. The book focuses on practicing nurses, who have some knowledge base, but would benefit from learning more managerial skills. An accompanying website includes additional resources.
Purpose: The purpose is to help working nurses pursuing their BSN or MSN to succeed in leading change and managing others. These are worthy objectives and yes, the book is needed. The online version includes additional references, resources and test items.
Audience: The book is written for nurses pursuing an RN-BSN or RN-MSN and who are interested in leadership and management. The author and contributors are all doctoral prepared and serve as deans, educators, and executives.
Features: The book covers the basics of leadership change and discusses transitioning to the professional role, handling stress and time management, team building, and the power structure and culture. The book has useful, hands-on tips for working as a leader. There are critical thinking questions, exercises, case studies, and helpful tables.
Assessment: This is a nicely written, concise, and helpful book on leadership and management for practicing nurses. It is an easy to understand book on incorporating the leadership role and managing change within healthcare. The exercises and case studies are excellent and very helpful. In all, it's a wonderful resource and highly recommended.
