Description: This book describes the challenges of working in nursing leadership, using unique elements such as critical questions, scenarios, and sample test questions. In addition, a number of appendixes provide surveys and valuable information. An accompanying website includes an ebook, videos, questions, PowerPoints, and additional references. The previous edition was published in 2016.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide current information on the challenges of the healthcare system and how they impact nursing leadership. These are worthy objectives and the book is needed.
Audience: The audience is nursing students or nurses who are interested in learning more about nursing leadership.
Features: The book covers a variety of leadership topics from the concept of change to the person leader, ethics, value-driven measures, career trajectories, and even how to give a podium presentation. The chapters are bright, colorful, and engaging. Readers will easily navigate the chapters, which provide multiple ways to study and engage. I could find nothing missing from this book. It is very well done.
Assessment: I love this book. It is colorful, easy to read, and full of wonderful information! The reflective questions and scenarios are very helpful. It includes additional surveys, assessments, and valuable tools for teamwork and management in various practice settings. The information is current and different than that found in other leadership books, such as how to give a podium presentation, how to handle collective bargaining, or how to negotiate for salary. This is a wonderful resource for anyone involved in healthcare leadership.
