A little grieving can occasionally do the heart some good...too much, however, can eventually break ones spirit. Broken spirits are not easily mended – sometimes they're lost for eternity.
Lee may not have died that day along with the woman he loved on that snow-covered New Jersey highway, but his love for life did. The loss of her drove Lee into a spiraling fit of despair from which he was unable to save himself. With her departure came other losses in Lee's life – he lost his grip on the important things that had defined who he was. Lee spent the majority of the year after she had passed away as a cheerless recluse. To compound his misery, his withdrawal from life cost him his wedding to the other woman he loved: His fiancé wouldn't marry Lee until he had purged himself of the unremitting grip the other woman had on his heart and mind; upon his soul.
Have you lost someone whose presence you can still feel abiding with you? Do inexplicable occurrences happen, such as a whiff of their scent, a familiar sound distinctive to them, or an object that belonged to them making its way to the forefront of your day (or night)? Lingering souls is a term used to describe the effects our deceased loved ones still have upon our lives. In Lee's continuing chronicles, lingering souls are portrayed as someone who has left the natural realm as we know it – simply stated - they have died. However, if they feel they have unfinished business here on earth – perhaps an uncompleted task – in this story they are given a choice of remaining in heaven, or coming back to dwell among us in order to help us move forward, and fulfill our destiny. They are the ones known as "Lingering Souls".
This story highlights the truth that God is a merciful and loving Father who wants to see His children flourish in all realms of life. In spite of what some people have done in His name over the years to harm others, never doubt that His unquenchable love extends far beyond our ability to comprehend it. Lee's relationship with God in the person of Jesus Christ was the one thing that sustained him through the span of time since his lovers passing. God knew Lee needed intervention – restoration - he needed hope: it arrived in the form of a love he'd lost. Lee's rescue from despair and self inflicted guilt came in the form of not one, but two lingering souls.
This is the continuing story of Lee Adams, his love interests, and his God appointed destiny. It begins where "Souls Cut from the Same Cloth" ended with the loss of his heart's desire; the woman Lee loved most.
