About the Author

W. Somerset Maugham (1874-1965) was an English playwright and writer. He was a popular and prolific author, producing twenty novels, more than two dozen plays, and numerous articles, short stories, and travelogues. In addition to his literary success, Maugham was one of the first writers to make significant earnings from film adaptations and was perhaps the highest-paid author during the 1930s.
