Keeping Your Kids Safe and Emotionally Secure

How many children are truly safe from school shootings – physically and emotionally? A shocking 187,000 school students have been directly exposed to gun violence since the Columbine school shooting in 1999. Millions more endure the trauma of being in "lockdown" and "active shooter" drills that occur regularly in schools today. Lockdown: Talking to Your Kids about School Violence offers unprecedented professional insight and critical therapeutic guidance to help parents, teachers, school administrators and social service professionals successfully nurture and heal children in this era of school shootings.
This book features scores of interviews conducted specifically for this book with children and their parents, including those present during 2018's tragic event at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, It offers important context and professional therapeutic strategies for dealing with the trauma that comes from lockdowns, active shooter drills, and the horrific events that occur all too frequently in our country today.
