Are you looking for a memoir that is both touching and funny? This book tells the story of 2 generations of men who grew up in the same town just outside of Chicago. One grew up in the 40's and 50's during WWII and Elvis and the other grew up in the 70's and 80's during Vietnam and Disco. Their stories are similar, but the progression into another world is evident. As boys in a small town they talk about how important neighbors were, their bicycles, the local movie theater, and the town they loved - Barrrington, Illinois. Take a step back in time to the 20th century when there were no cell phones, computers, or video games like XBOX. The book comes complete with a description of the eras, popular toys of the times, songs that they sung on the school bus or at camp, and popular school yard games they played. Each man was active in his community because there was a lot to offer. It's a historical biography of a town that my not exist in today's world. This is a look back at a time when you could trust your neighbor and know they would never move away. For those of you who grew up in a small town or even a neighborhood in a city like this you can relate to the days when nobody locked their doors because trust was taken seriously. Trust got you a loan at the bank (not credit), and people were forced to get along just to get along. Ronald Dockery, the senior Dockery was a very successful business man and provided his family with a good life and his son reflects that, but emphasizes the lessons his Dad taught him. About the Author

Ronald Dockery was a native of Barrington, Illinois who was a co-owner of Adco Van & Storage. He left behind his memoirs to his family and his son, David Dockery, edited them and added his memoirs to create a book called Looking Back: Growing Up in Middle-America in the 20th Century. He was very active in Rotary, Masons, Moose Lodge, and Barrington High School. He also traveled the world in retirement making friends everywhere he went. His unique insight into the times of his childhood are what make his book so interesting and delightful.


David Dockery is an American author, blogger, illustrator, and graphic artist based in Central Florida. He is the author of a non-fiction book about growing up in his home town in the Midwest and he is working on a fictional book about revenge.
Dave is also available for cover design. He has done graphics for almost 20 years and will redesign your cover or design it for an affordable rate.
David was in the US Navy and Desert Storm. He regularly blogs about Gulf War Illness and veteran's rights. He is married with 3 kids. His other hobbies include fishing, films, painting, and cartooning.
