About the Author

Adam Nevill was born in Birmingham, England, in 1969 and grew up in England and New Zealand. He is the author of the supernatural horror novels including Banquet for the Damned, Apartment 16, House of Small Shadows, No One Gets Out Alive and Lost Girl as well as The Ritual and Last Days which both won The August Derleth Award for Best Horror Novel, and the RUSA for Best in Category: Horror. Adam lives in Birmingham, England.

Adam L.G. Nevill was born in Birmingham, England, in 1969 and grew up in England and New Zealand. He is the author of the horror novels: Banquet for the Damned, Apartment 16, The Ritual, Last Days, House of Small Shadows, No One Gets Out Alive, Lost Girl and Under a Watchful Eye. His first short story collection, Some Will Not Sleep: Selected Horrors, was published on Halloween, 2016.

His novels, The Ritual, Last Days and No One Gets Out Alive were the winners of The August Derleth Award for Best Horror Novel. The Ritual and Last Days were also awarded Best in Category: Horror, by R.U.S.A. Many of his novels are currently in development for film and television, and in 2016 Imaginarium adapted The Ritual into a feature film.

Adam lives in Devon, England.

A novel which recognises the complex lives we all lead, that of private intimates (family, lovers, friends) as well as global citizens. It's how these two intermesh that determine the way things go for us, and by exploring these double realms of experience with such conviction, Nevill's narrative tears us apart at the end of the book. It's all too true in our troubled times, and I fear the novel will grow increasingly topical as the years unfold

Nevill (No One Gets Out Alive) isn’t at his best in this near-future revenge thriller; his writing is as sharp as ever, as he provides a grimly plausible recipe for an impending global apocalypse, but the central plot is familiar and becomes repetitive. In 2051, global warming has led to violent conflict and mass suffering. An Englishman identified only as “the father” is distracted at a crucial time; instead of keeping an eye on his four-year-old-daughter, Penny, who has been playing in their garden, he’s writing a salacious email to a woman who is not his wife, and while he’s looking away, Penny vanishes. Two years later, Penny is still unaccounted for. With Great Britain overrun by refugees and the authorities overwhelmed, the tragedy is lost in the huge volume of human misery, forcing the father to turn vigilante to find his daughter. The guilt-ridden lead is two-dimensional, and his constant grappling with how far he should go to get to the truth becomes static. Agent: John Jarrold, John Jarrold Literary (U.K.). (Nov.)
