Overview

As we have traveled this path with our child since the Fall of 2014, some of those questions have been answered--they've had to be, because there were new questions waiting.

I will be sharing my experience of this transition as the mother who gave birth to this beautiful, brave, and wondrous child.
My hope is that by sharing my experience, the door will be opened to many other mothers to accept and not fear accompanying their child on this journey with love, grace, and respect. As mothers we are purveyors of grace for our children. We are conduits of God's grace and mercy. Through our unconditional love we can move with our children as they find and reveal themselves, all the while easing their fears.

I share my experiences with this transition because I know there are others out there who might be needing some hope, some understanding, and some way of finding their faith in the midst of such a transition.

About the Author

Daphne Reiley is a woman of deep faith, a wife, a mother, a spiritual director, and a servant leader within her home congregation of First Christian Church of Decatur, Georgia (Disciples of Christ). Daphne was led to write Love, Then Listen as she realized so many parents, especially mothers, were struggling with how to faithfully support their child as the child lived into their true gender. Ms. Reiley has long been an ardent supporter of caregivers of all kinds, having previously co-written A Tapestry of Love, the Spirituality of Caregiving with the Rev. Dr. Joseph V. LaGuardia. Daphne earned the Certificate in Spiritual Formation from Columbia Theological Seminary in 2010 and has trained under Columbia Theological Seminary’s Certificate in Spiritual Direction program. She has written and facilitated several workshops dealing with the use of spiritual listening to offer aid and comfort to caregivers. When she isn’t writing, listening, or providing a comforting presence, Daphne enjoys spending time with her family, contra dancing, loving on the trio of family pets, and reading mysteries and historical fiction.
