Description: The focus of this book is on preparing LPNs with changes in practice as they transition to the role of RN. It details the concrete or obvious differences in curriculum for LPN-RN programs as well as information on adaption and transition.
Purpose: The authors indicate the purpose is to provide readers with "useful tools to successfully balance career, school, and personal lives while pursuing their educational and professional goals." This book certainly fits a need for LPNs making a commitment to become RNs.
Audience: The intended audience is LPNs planning to become RNs. Noting that the financial and personal investment for such an endeavor is significant, the authors point out it is important to provide these individuals with the right tools for success.
Features: This is a good quality book for nurses transitioning from LPN to RN. One shortcoming, however, is that this 2013 book uses a dated NANDA list (09-11). In addition, there are repeated references to LPN to RN in pursuit of an AD, although many LPNs select the BSN route. The authors may be selling the book short by addressing only AD, since this book is pertinent for those selecting the BSN option as well.
Assessment: The information in this book is pertinent for an LPN contemplating becoming a RN and throughout the process. However, it also will be a great source of reference/reflection in the early years of practice as an RN. This book has longevity.
