In urma unui telefon anonim, Gaston Meurant este acuzat de uciderea matusii sale, Leontine Faverges, si a lui Cecile Perrin, fetita care locuia impreuna cu aceasta, precum si de sustragerea unei sume considerabile. El este insa achitat din lipsa de probe, dupa un proces dur in care marturii neasteptate rastoarna ancheta. Aflam printre altele ca Ginette, sotia lui Meurant, avea de citeva luni un amant. Maigret nu dispune de nici o pista, insa Meurant, impins de gelozie si de dorinta de razbunare, il va ghida fara sa-si dea seama.

Georges Simenon (1903-1989) is one of the most widely read and published novelists of all time. He wrote more than two hundred books under his own name including seventy-five Jules Maigret novels, for which he is best known, and more than two hundred under a series of pseudonyms. He published his first book in 1931 and his last in 1972.
