This is an excellent book that covers the treatment of chronic neuropsychiatric disorders. Written and edited by well-known experts in the field, this book is valuable as a reference guide to clinicians in psychiatry, neurology, and primary care. The purpose is to provide guidelines for the treatment of chronic neuropsychiatric disorders. The authors note that in the changing healthcare environment, the responsibility of the care of patients with chronic neuropsychiatric disorders will be in the hands of primary care physicians rather than psychiatrists and neurologists who now will provide acute and consultative care. These authors intend to educate primary care physicians for this responsibility. The intended audience is psychiatrists, neurologists, and primary care physicians. Neuropsychologists, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners may also benefit. The book features 394 pages divided into 15 chapters, including an index section. Topics covered include pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, pharmacoeconomics, depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, seizure disorders, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, dementia, post-stroke psychiatric disorders, chronic pain, HIV, and traumatic brain injury.
