Overview

Pastor Reno found the book of I John to be helpful for people sorting out where they really stand with the Lord. I John will encourage and assure those who are saved, and it will often alarm and awaken those who are lost. There are three purposes given in the book of I John for its having been written. The first purpose is: "And these things write we unto you that your joy might be full." The second purpose is: "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not." The third purpose is we can know we are saved: "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."

About the Author

J. PAUL RENO has been a pastor in Ohio and Maryland since 1968. During this time he has also been involved in church planting, training men for the ministry and speaking on mission fields in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, South America and Mexico. The church he presently pastors has sent millions of dollars to missions. He continues to speak at various Bible conferences, camp meetings and local churches. He presently serves on the Board of Directors for the Conversion Center, which is headquartered in Hagerstown, Maryland. Pastor Reno recently was honored with the prestigious award, "Defender of the Scriptures," by the King James Bible Research Council. He is also the author of To Fight or Not to Fight, Daniel Nash: Prevailing Prince of Prayer, Investing for Eternity, Studies in Bible Doctrine as well as over fifty pamphlets and booklets on salvation, the Christian life, Bible doctrine and the King James Version. Pastor Reno examines the marks of eternal life. Often we use terms from the Bible but don't have clear definitions or descriptions of them. Others use the same terms and mean something entirely different. We have come to a time and to a generation that uses the terms but doesn't know what they mean. God gives us, in His Word, some marks whereby we might know if we are saved. I have found the book of I John to be helpful for people sorting out where they really stand with the Lord. I John will encourage and assure those who are saved, and it will often alarm and awaken those who are lost. Just a simple reading and re-reading with examination will do this.
