About the Author

Marshall County, by Dr. Mary Carol Miller, is a compilation of the historic photographic collection of Chesley Thorne Smith, a lifelong resident of Holly Springs. Dr. Miller, winner of the 1997 Mississippi Library Association's Non-fiction Book of the Year Award, combines illuminating text with Mrs. Smith's outstanding photographs covering the period from 1919 through the 1950s, as well as her collection of the earlier work of several local photographers, with some images dating back to the 1870s.
