About the Author

Dr. Watkins is a passionate criminologist with a deep interest in criminal justice. With a focus on therapeutic jurisprudence, Mallory seeks to explore the intersection between law, psychology, and social justice. Born and raised in Summerville / Charleston, West Virginia, Mallory developed a curiosity about the criminal justice system from an early age.

After completing high school, Dr. Watkins pursued a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and psychology. During her undergraduate years, she actively engaged in research projects related to criminal justice, delving into the life stories of individuals who have been impacted by the justice system. This research ignited a desire to advocate for the rights and well-being of those involved in the system, particularly juveniles.

Motivated by this passion, Dr. Watkins decided to pursue a master’s degree in criminal justice administration. Throughout graduate studies, Mallory focused on understanding the factors that contribute to juvenile recidivism rates and exploring innovative approaches to reduce reoffending among young people. Her research and coursework provided valuable insights into the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions and the importance of providing support and resources to at-risk youth.

Further, Dr. Watkins completed a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice and a third post-graduate degree in Higher Education Administration. Mallory hopes to contribute to the field of criminal justice and education through research, advocacy, and policy development, ultimately striving to create a more equitable and rehabilitative justice system for all.

Beyond academics, Mallory is a wife and mother of two beautiful children. She has actively participated in community outreach programs, volunteering at local youth centers and mentoring programs, and other non-profit organizations. These experiences have further solidified their commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of young individuals involved in the justice system. Dr. Watkins is a devoted academic that aims to see all students succeed.

This workbook aims to assist undergraduate and graduate students as well as individuals completing independent research or within their organizations in achieving their educational goals by assisting them in developing a viable research topic. This book provides 14 days of prompts to allow students to brainstorm their research topics by combining them with their relative practitioner and educational experience.
