The Barnes & Noble Review
Tough-as-nails vampire executioner and necromancer Anita Blake is back and hotter than ever in Laurell K. Hamilton's newest, Micah -- her first Vampire Hunter original paperback release in almost a decade. This stand-alone novel explores the hunky wereleopard Micah's mysterious past and his increasingly intense and complex relationship with Anita.
When one of Anita's friends, federal marshal and fellow necromancer Larry Kirkland, is called away because of a family emergency, Anita is forced to fill in for a reanimation in Philadelphia involving a federal witness who died of a heart attack before he could testify in court. As Anita has an irrational fear of flying, one of Anita's lovers, Micah Callahan -- a lethally attractive wereleopard with mesmerizing chartreuse eyes -- volunteers to accompany her to the City of Brotherly Love for the nocturnal zombie raising. Far away from St. Louis and Anita's bevy of supernatural lovers, she and Micah get to share some intimate one-on-one time with powerfully moving results. After (ahem!) raising a little hell in the hotel room, Anita travels to the Philadelphia cemetery to raise the dead -- only to be faced with her wildest, most unexpected zombie reanimation to date…
Addictively readable and downright erotic, this enlightening glimpse into Micah's past -- and future with his oversexed leopard queen -- will surely be a lip-smacking treat for the millions of ravenous Anita Blake fans. Highly recommended -- as is an ice-cold shower afterward. Paul Goat Allen

Hamilton (Incubus Dreams) delivers a highly palatable portion of what makes her series heroine, federal marshal and vampire-hunter Anita Blake, a bestseller: equal portions hot sex and supernatural crime fighting-with a dollop of old-fashioned male-female melodrama-served up in a world where new were-animals have their own crisis hotline. Filling in for a colleague, Anita travels to Philadelphia to reanimate a deceased federal witness, accompanied by Micah, her wereleopard lover. The jaunt serves as a chance for them to share some rare one-on-one time-without any of her five other lovers around-which Anita fears is not necessarily a good thing. Even worse, since her magic energy has grown unexpectedly strong, she suspects this won't be your run-of-the-mill reincarnation. A good entry point for the uninitiated, this offering provides further insight into both characters and their universe. A bonus excerpt will whet fans' appetites for the 13th full-length novel in the series, Danse Macabre, coming this June. (Feb. 28) Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

In A Stroke of Midnight, Meredith Gentry, P.I., appears in her role as Princess Meredith NicEssus, coheir to her aunt, the Queen of Air and Darkness. Meredith spends a frenetic 24 hours attempting to solve a murder while coupling obsessively in her effort to achieve pregnancy and become absolute heir to her aunt. The listener learns Merry is descended from five fertility goddesses, and each graphically described sex act brings life and magic back to Faerie, while granting powers to her partners. By the end, it is clear that Merry herself is approaching invincibility. Micah, a novella from the "Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter/Executioner" series, brings Anita to Philadelphia. Another necromancer backs out of a job where he was to restore life and voice to a federal witness whose testimony is needed in a murder investigation. It's a short trip, so only a single lover, Micah, accompanies her. The zombie witness event goes horribly wrong, but the tryst with Micah is perfect. Graphic sex and a violent cemetery battle provide the elements Hamilton's listeners seem to appreciate most. This short work offers some character development and more plot than her previous novels. Listening to Rey Colette perform is a distinct pleasure; Laural Merlington does an equally fine job with Stroke of Midnight. These selections are recommended for collections that include erotica and where Hamilton is popular.-Janet Martin, FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Pinehurst, NC Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

Rey Colette debuts in Hamilton's twelfth installment of erotic fiction staring Federal Marshal, vampire hunter, zombie animator Anita Blake and her multi-lover adventures. Colette doesn't enunciate enough for the clipped pace she uses on the first two CDs, but she improves later. She gives Micah, a well-endowed “wereleopard” and the male lead, a gravelly voice that can be grating, until one’s ear adjusts. Still, the book is too short to displease and long enough to satisfy one’s erogenous zones. A reader of several of the previous books in the series, Cynthia Holloway, returns for the just released 21-hour sequel, DANSE MACABRE. D.J.M. © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine
