A powerful practitioner in the magical world has come to Eagle Rock to convince the large population of sorcerers that they should join his efforts to unite all those magic-endowed citizens, but his call for action stirs up the town's nonmagical residents. The conflict between the two groups erupts in violence, and Cassie is caught in the middle. On top of it all, the man she thought she loved is back in town after inexplicably turning his back on her, and when Cassie finally discovers why, her life will never be the same. VERDICT An exceptional urban fantasy series for those seeking a small-town setting, although the small-press publisher means this title might be harder to find (and the cover art is pretty awful). The characters are well drawn, though, especially the heroine and her world of magic wielders.
