Oliole Fontenot has realized her dream of pursuing a career in photography, rare for a woman in 1885. However, in unsettled Montana, she has found the freedom to master her craft. When she meets a charming, albeit unemployed drover named Kaid Darrant, Oliole suddenly faces the choice between her career and the more conventional life of marriage and motherhood. Bly's (My Foot's in the Stirrup, LJ 11/1/96) hallmark rollicking charm is very much in evidence in this adventurous tale of the Old West. Of special interest is the unusual portrayal of a highly independent yet deeply religious woman who knows her own mind and isn't afraid to express her thoughts and feelings. Recommended.
