I have always worked in fabric and perhaps have had a rather disparaging attitude as to the functionality and purpose of creations using paper. Of course art takes all forms and after reading this book by Sherrill I have had a moment of enlightenment! There are more than 50 surface and design techniques for fabric and paper and most are medium inter-changeable so if you want fabric, have fabric. The methods are clearly explained, allowing you to create fascinating surfaces by using paints, inks, resists, stamps, markers and too many other things to list. This is certainly one to delve into even if you remain like me, stalwartly on the side of fabric!

Then offer a different technique class session for an entire year! 52 weeks is a long time to commit to, so ask participants to sign up for 10 at a time and call them semesters. Encourage experimental homework, and then show and tell at each session. Be certain to prominently post samples of each technique as the class progresses to build more interest for future students!
