Overview

JOHN GARLAND THAYER grew up on a farm with seven siblings at Abingdon, Virginia, though he is now a Tennessean. He earned a bachelor's degree from Berea College, a master's degree from East Tennessee ~tate University, a Master of Sacred Theology degree from Boston University School of Theology, and a doctorate from the American Institute of Holistic Theology. He is a retired educator and a United Methodist pastor. Thayer is married with four children and seven grandchildren. The author visits homebound members of his church in Johnson City. He enjoys gardening, writing, dancing, reading, and public speaking.

About the Author

John Garland Thayer earned his A.B. in Fine Art from Berea college in Kentucky and went on to receive a masters degree in school administration from Eastern Tennessee State University, a masters degree of Sacred Theology from the Boston University School of theology (where he studied with Martin Luther King), and a doctorate in Divinity from the American Institute of Holistic Theology in Birmingham, Alabama.  The author is now retired from his career in education after serving a decade apiece in the public schools of Tennessee and Virginia, fourteen years as Dean of Washington College Academy, and nearly forty years as a pastor in the United Methodist Church.  Mr. Thayer has received many honors, including the 4-H Family Award and Berea college's Outstanding Service Award.  The author makes his home in Tennessee, and continues to serve as a part-time visitation minister.
