Overview

In the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, a young boy enjoys the wonder of a hot, summer night catching fireflies. However, these are unique fireflies. It is the synchronous firefly. These special fireflies appear for a short period in the summer and communicate in a special way by flashing their hues of greens and yellows at the same time; performing a melodic dance through the mountain air. On the other side of the world, a young boy from Southeast Asia enjoys the same thrills of the fireflies on a hot, summer night, once again showing us that no matter where children might live, they all experience the joys of nature and the excitement of discovering the natural world. Woven throughout the book is also a lesson on this very special firefly; giving an easily understood science lesson to the child and parent.

About the Author

Tamela Marie Wheeler passed away suddenly on January 17, 2011 before her book was published. It was her family’s wish to see her vision become reality. Tamela was a talented and excited teacher of all ages. While she taught English as a second language to adults in Northeast Tennessee for over a decade, she remained committed to teaching all ages throughout her life. She was a wife, mother of two sons, and a great friend to hundreds of people from around the world. While Tamela is no longer with us, she remains in our hearts. It is with great respect and love that this book is dedicated to her memory. Her words and inspiration will continue to touch generations for years to come.
