"Another great book by Mosby's. A must by for those wanting to get to grips with fetal monitoring.

This book gives a history of fetal monitoring and how it came into clinical practice. It even states how the use of fetal monitoring was adopted for low risk women and after several clinical trails, it was proven that continuos fetal monitoring was not associated with a decrease in low Apgar scores or perinatal mortality, but yet the use of continuos monitoring hasn't decreased.

The book is in depth, covering different equipment such as pinards and fetoscopes and their use. With examples of different traces to demonstrate different scenarios.

A really good pocket guide to fetal monitoring. It's small enough to take on placement so if you experience a 'dodgy' trace you can look it up while its still fresh on your mind. Also a must for qualified midwives."

Purpose: The purpose is to provide a "practical, portable and evidence-based resource on fetal monitoring." This book is concise and succinct in its review of important information about fetal monitoring. Although there are many reference books or textbooks in this area, this is THE pocket guide to fetal monitoring.
Audience: This pocket guide is meant for physicians, staff nurses, nursing students, and/or medical students providing care for obstetrical patients on fetal monitoring. The authors include a nurse, a nurse attorney, and a physician working in the area of perinatal care.
Features: The book is divided into sections addressing the history of fetal monitoring, its physiologic basis, uterine activity, terminology, interpretation, and management based on the updated NICHD. Information is clearly reviewed and organized to easily locate information for the busy practitioner or the searching student. Tables, flowcharts, and fetal monitoring strips are pertinent and helpful in understanding the content. Use of bulleted lists for some information makes it easier to use for busy practitioners.
Assessment: This portable review of fetal monitoring is perfect for perinatal physicians, staff nurses, nursing and medical students. It is excellent as a quick resource guide in the clinical setting and as a basis for understanding fetal monitoring. Its multidisciplinary approach contributes to its use in the clinical arena.
