There are many defining labels that one is born with. It could be your gender, background, ethnicity, or nationality. We don't have control over such labels, at least for the time being. It's ironic how these simple labels define your whole existence. But would you let them? And most importantly, should you? When these labels become problematic for you, you can and should have the power the change these labels, at least to an extent.
My life story took a sharp turn when my parents decided to change one of these labels for me. The political instability in my home country and the specific circumstances that arose for my family and me led us to flee the country. And we arrived at our fateful destination, 'The land of dreams', America.
