Chapter One

Imani was awakened by the smell of breakfast and the sun peeking thru her window blinds.

It was a very special day. Imani was going to her best friend's birthday party. Cameron, Imani's classmate, was turning six years old today.

Cameron's party had a theme. Each of the guests are expected to come dressed as their favorite Disney character. "Wow", said Imani. "Which character will I be"? "Will I be Cinderella, Jasmine, Snow White, or Tatiana"? Of course, Imani chose to be Tatiana, the royalty in "the Princess and the Frog".

Imani chose Tatiana because that is who she believes she looks most like.

Imani ran down stairs to find her mother, Mrs. Jones had prepared her favorite breakfast, pancakes.

Imani ate her breakfast in five minutes flat, and reminded her mother that today was Cameron's birthday party. She also reminded her that she promised to do her hair; "You promised to make me look like Princess Tatiana", said Imani.

After breakfast, Mrs. Jones gathered all her hair products and began to unbraid Imani's hair. Imani sat on a foot stool in front of Mrs. Jones, who was sitting in a regular chair. Once Mrs. Jones finished unbraiding Imani's hair, she turned Imani towards the mirror on the wall.
