Overview

Karma was excited and ready for her first day of fifth grade, but had no idea her breakfast would stop her from going. Having a first-time food for breakfast stirs up some trouble for Karma and forces her mother to act quickly.

Food allergies have become common in children in the United States, with even higher rates discovered in communities of color. Follow Karma and her mother as they try to uncover the cause of Karma's reaction in this beautifully told story from Dr. Chiquetta Thompson with illustrations from visual artist, Dezzi Kamali.

About the Author

Dr. Chiquetta Thompson is an African-American author, public speaker, educator, and Licensed Master Social Worker. Her experiences as a mother raising children with allergies led her to write a series of books on the topic. Her first book "I Like Peanuts, But Peanuts Don't Like Me" provides a charming glance into what a nut allergy can look and feel like for children of color. In 2020, Dr. Thompson will release "My Pineapple Eyes," a children's book focusing on fruit allergies.
