The series assembles influential journal articles of the past quarter century or so in comparative politics to provide teachers, researchers, and students a basis for understanding both the established conceptual terrain and the new ground being broken in the field. The 19 articles cover the meaning of security, realism and security, cooperative security and arms control, third-world security, the broader agenda, environmental security, and deeper explorations of security. Though the earliest is from 1952, most are from the 1980s and 1990s. The concepts of national and international security, so important during the 20th century, have only recently attracted the attention of theorists. There is no subject index. Annotation c.
