CHAPTER 1
When Nathaniel Birdy was born, he was so incredibly small and had the biggest glasses on that anyone had ever seen. His family could hardly believe what they saw!
"Nerdy!" is what his older brother said. "Let's call him Nerdy the little Birdy!"
"We have to take extra special care of him because he is the smallest baby we have ever had," said his mother.
"We sure will!" said the rest of his brothers and sisters.
Nerdy's family encouraged him to use his wings to try and fly. All of his brothers and sisters learned to fly soon after they were born. But Nerdy was so small that he just could not do it.
The Birdy family helped Nerdy everyday. They made sure he had lots of good food to eat. Since he could not fly and play like the others, they gave him many books to read.
Nerdy was eating and reading so fast that his brothers and sisters could hardly keep up!
Slowly but surely, Nerdy grew bigger and stronger. One day with all of his family around he tried once again to fly.
"Go Nerdy!" they shouted.
"You can do it!" said his father.
