About the Author

Tue Sy was born in 1943 in Pakse, Laos.
He was a novice of the Lam Te (Rinzai) Buddhism since 1953.
- 1960, he sojourned throughout South Vietnam, overnighted in many provincial temples.
- 1966, his essays and poems were first published in literary magazines, some of which he subsequently
assumed editorship.
- 1969, he was a professor of Buddhist Philosophy at Van Hanh University, Saigon.
- 1973, he went back to Nha Trang then participated in establish The Hai Duc College of Buddhism.
- 1977, returned to Saigon.
- 1978, he was imprisoned for 2 years.
- 1984, he was imprisoned again, and then and was sentenced to death-by-execution in 1988. One month
later, his death sentence was commuted to 20 years of imprisonment.
- 1998, he was released, then devoted most of his time to writing and translating in a remote hermitage, in
the high-plain of Lam Dong province Vietnam.
