Overview

Mr. Ammons' poetry has appeared in such publications as the Hudson Review, The Nation (for which he was at one time poetry editor), the New York Times, Poetry, and the Partisan Review.

Ommateum, his first book, was published in 1955, and was followed in 1964 by Expressions of Sea Level. Corsons Inlet and Tape for the Turn of the Year were published in 1965 by Cornell University Press. In 1966, Mr. Ammons received a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship for creative writing in poetry.

About the Author

A. R. Ammons’s (1926–2001) was a two-time winner of the National Book Award and the recipient of a National Book Critics Circle Award. His many additional honors include the Academy of American Poets’ Wallace Stevens Award, the Bollingen Prize, the Poetry Society of America’s Robert Frost Medal, the Ruth Lilly Prize, and fellowships from the Guggenheim and MacArthur Foundations.
