Todd McLaren’s narration doesn’t add much to LOS ANGELES TIMES film critic Kenneth Turan’s discussion of his favorite movies. Ranging from familiar titles such as THE GODFATHER and CITIZEN KANE to more obscure works such as THE DYBBUK and LEOLO, this series of rather academic commentaries places the assessment of each film within the context of the filmmaker’s intent. McLaren’s documentary-style delivery is steady, even, and workmanlike, but a number of mispronunciations of film titles and foreign phrases weaken the listening experience.
