Overview

When you read the Prologue you might think this book is a work of fiction. Think again. The subtitle of the book is "True Life Ranger Stories" and that is what it is. After 29 years of service as a California State Park Ranger, E. Simon Cavazos written the story of what rangers and lifeguards deal with on a daily basis. It’s more exciting than you think.

State Park Peace Officers deal with homicides, rapes, burglaries, arson, suicides and many other serious situations. We get involved in difficult rescues and other high-risk public safety situations; park professionals have been seriously injured and even killed in the line of duty.

Of course, as with any job that involves constant interaction with people, there’s also humor. And with park rangers, there’s the added dimension of engagement with the natural world and it’s oddities, which have to be explained to visitors.
