Old School, Vol. 2

Overview

Another round of funk, disco, club-oriented '80s R&B, and a little hip-hop are offered on the second round of Thump's Old School series, originally released during the early '90s and reissued in 2011. It's a somewhat random, grab-bag assortment -- as is the case with most other Old School volumes -- but Thump sticks to bona fide hits and cult classics. Among the more enduring selections: Mtume's "Juicy Fruit," Vaughan Mason & Crew's "Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll," the Brothers Johnson's "Strawberry Letter 23," and James Brown's "I Feel Good." There's a definite emphasis on the late '70s and the early '80s, and just about everything is essential. ~ Andy Kellman
