About the Author

Connie Henke Yarbro, RN, MS, FAAN, is Founding Editor of Seminars in Oncology Nursing, and Adjunct Courtesy Faculty, Sinclair School of Nursing, University of Missouri-Columbia. One of the founders of the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) in 1975, she served as the first Treasurer (1975-1979) and President of the ONS (1979-1983). In 1981, she founded the ONS Foundation and served as President from 1982-1988. She has served on the Board of Trustees for the Association of Community Cancer Centers, the American Association for Cancer Education, advisory panels for the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Pharmacopeia, and numerous other committees and advisory panels. She is one of three editors of the comprehensive textbook of oncology nursing, Cancer Nursing: Principles and Practice (8th ed), Cancer Symptom Management (4th ed), Oncology Nursing Review (6th ed), Breast Care Certification Review (2nd ed), and co-editor of Oncology Nursing in the Ambulatory Setting and Cancer Pain Management (2nd ed). She has published over 100 articles and book chapters on topics related to cancer nursing and care, and is a national and international lecturer. She is Past President of the International Society for Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC), served on the Medical Advisory Board of CancerSource.com, the Board of Directors for the Center for Biomedical Continuing Education, the Alternative and Complementary Methods of Cancer Management Committee of the American Cancer Society and the Leadership and Development Committee of ONS. She has received numerous local, national and international awards and most recently was named a Living Legend by the American Academy of Nursing.

Debra Wujcik is the Interim Administrative Director of the Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center Clinical Trials Shared Resource and the Director of Clinical Trials at Meharry. She is also an Associate Professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. Dr. Wujcik has multiple presentations and publications in clinical areas of expertise including targeted cancer therapies and cancer clinical trials and recently co-edited the 7th Edition of Cancer Nursing: Principles and Practice. She is the editor of ONS Connect, the news magazine of the Oncology Nursing Society. Dr. Wujcik received her BSN and MSN from the University of Pittsburgh and her PhD from the University of Utah. Her research focuses on identifying and decreasing barriers to clinical trial participation and cancer screening in minority and medically underserved populations.

Description: This sixth edition of a review for oncology nursing is filled with over 1,000 questions, along with answers that include rationales for both the correct and incorrect answer choices. For further explanation and clarification, the authors recommend and include page numbers for two books: Cancer Nursing: Principles and Practice, 8th edition, Yarbro et al. (Jones & Bartlett Learning, 2016), and Cancer Symptom Management, 4th edition, Yarbro et al. (Jones & Bartlett Learning, 2014). This edition also includes an access code to an accompanying website with over 1,100 more practice questions. The previous edition was published in 2011.
Purpose: The purpose is to help readers in preparation for the Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification exam. With limited OCN study materials available, this book is much needed. The supplemental website is value added, providing over twice the number of practice questions.
Audience: The audience is oncology nurses. All three authors are oncology nurses and have several oncology-related publications. Two of the three authors hold current advanced oncology nursing certifications.
Features: This book is based on the OCN test blueprint categories. As such, the book chapters are broken down accordingly and cover care continuum, oncology nursing practice, major treatment modalities, symptom management and palliative care, oncologic emergencies, and psychosocial dimensions of cancer care. Each of these categories has subcategories for added structure.
Assessment: This is a great addition to the limited offerings of OCN review resources, and this edition is a welcome update as the previous one was published nine years ago. A similar review book, Core Curriculum for Oncology Nursing, 6th edition, Brant et al. (Elsevier, 2019), available through the Oncology Nursing Society, also has an accompanying study guide that provides answer rationales.
