The Kingdom, Territory, State of Hawaii is known for unusually large numbers of artists of all kinds. Many men in Hawaii are quilters, the percentage being. perhaps, ten times the number on the "Mainland." You may know of pharmacists and veterinarians and dentists who give Covid vaccinations during the day and build quilts by night. And vice-versa. Here is just one example of twenty-five years work which produced twenty paintings done with cotton fabric. I started with a pillow 90 by 108 inches because challenge. It is extremely satisfying work.

About the Author

It is said that a queen size quilt, 90 x 108, takes about 1000 hours to finish. That’s about 6 months full time. For a pharmacist, 6 months at 40 hours will get you $70.000.00. No one will pay that much for a 100% handmade quilt. Thus I have given away 10 quilts, not all Hawaiian, and only to family members. Much more valuable than my time as a pharmacist – quiltmaking is the love and spirituality which went into the artwork. I repaired and made safe-to-use 2 quilts, and I probably got more satisfaction from the work that I did, than the piano teacher and elementary teacher for whom I did it.
