Viele kennen Ludwig Thoma nur als Verfasser der ¿Lausbubengeschichten“, in denen er selber der Held ist. Dort ist der Blick auf die Umwelt satirisch. Doch Thoma konnte auch anders - wie etwa in ¿Onkel Peppi“. Nicht Satire, sondern Humor führt hier die Feder. Wie anläßlich eines Begräbnisses Menschen verschiedener Herkunft und Klassen zusammentreffen, das schildert Thoma mit liebevollem Blick und mildem Humor. Auch die zweite, sehr knappe Erzählung hat ein Begräbnis zum Gegenstand, diesmal im städtischen Kleinbürgermilieu - entsprechend giftig fällt sie aus! Hier überwiegt der unsentimental-satirische Blick.
Ludwig Thoma is mostly known for his very satirical "Lausbubengeschichten“ (Tales of a Young Scamp) in which the author himself plays the role of the protagonist. But Thoma's work was diverse, which is exemplified by “Onkel Peppi” (Uncle Peppi): A humorous tale without the biting satire found in his other works. How people from all walks of life come together to attend a funeral is depicted lovingly and with surprisingly mild humor. The second story included in this audiobook is called “Das Begräbnis” (The Funeral). While it also revolves around a funeral, its style is more satirical in nature and falls in line with Thoma's more popular works.
