Opinions of an Opinionated Individual
I do not feel short of overemphasizing that my opinions, and their rationalization in the topics expressed, are in any way, intended to lecture, to show the right way, or condemn those opinions that differ from mine's. Undeterred by the frequent attacks of the cancel culture to suppress our free speech, I just want to share my opinions with whoever is willing to find out what is going on in the neighbor's backyard. I constantly hear over and over those slogans and cliches, about free speech and democracy to the point that I became to believe, that thus far we have those rights in America. However, I am discovering now that free speech and democracy exist but conditioned by some limitations. First, that there is a list of taboos which instruct us not to mention words and issues like God, biological pronouns, insensitive words, poverty in America, homelessness, illegal immigration, and climate change, among others. Then, any idea or opinion should be validated first, by the censorship branch of government controlling free speech. In addition, I am finding out that there is a pack of ideology gurus and self-proclaimed critics, to whom we should turn in our ideas to obtain their seal of approval.

The wish to express my opinions in writing rather than articulate them in a common conversation was born from the experience that there are few people able to converse or discuss certain themes. On occasions, I observed how intimidated and uncomfortable they felt, when they heard those issues, whose content have been politicized and rendered taboo by the misinformation media. I also watched those same people reading with no objection, the same issues whose content were not able to converse without discomfort. This gave me the idea of expressing myself in writing, thus getting out of my head those thoughts that sometimes strike us, but we do not have any interested party able to listen and converse with us.

About the Author

One of the tasks requested from an author whose book is to be published is to come forward with some biographical data. When asked about his intellectual accomplishments, like degrees or cultural club memberships, Jerry indicated that despite attending college and university, his alma mater has been life itself, where in his own words he learned by experience to survive its hardships through good and bad days. He came to America in his early youth, along with his mother and siblings during the presidency of President Kennedy. What prompted them to immigrate to the north was that troubling political scene that overwhelmed the countries of South America during the 40’s and 50’s riddled with militarism and dictatorships.
He remembered attending Hollywood High (his first learning center) where he studied English and later Italian and French. In this class he met his first wife, Carolyn Eddy, with whom he later had his son Jerry Bob and daughter Robin. While working at B of A, he attended Cal State University in Los Angeles, in pursuit of a BA degree. However, he could not finish his studies because he was chosen to be part of a team to automate the banking system of Latin America. After the implementation of the small-scale systems in the bank’s branches, he became DPC manager in Panama City, center of Latin America Currency (LACU) of Bank of America.
With the closures of the bank’s branches in Latin America, he returned to California bouncing from venture to venture until he founded his medical equipment and supplies company in collaboration with his brothers in Los Angeles serving as president until his retirement.
In lieu of academic certificates, Jerry possesses his early educational background of Latin and Greek literacy as well as some schooling in Philosophical and literary arts, especially on the classics of the Spanish literature of the Golden era. He loves to read everything that inspires him to think. He says, “I like more to think than to read, because when I think I form my own ideas about what others say.” He has authored a book of poetry recently in Spanish, YO, TÚ, NOSOTROS. He now lives in Norfolk, Virginia along with his wife, Laura Bukowski and close to his children and families.
