Description: Patients can have a wide variety of diseases and ailments that can complicate their dental treatment. This book presents dental care providers with a brief yet insightful look at the field of oral medicine.
Purpose: This book is meant to serve as an additional resource of information when treating a patient's dental and oral medicine needs. It should not replace the more complete oral medicine textbooks, but rather serve as a time-saving tool. The book achieves this goal.
Audience: This is a tremendous resource for anyone who is in direct contact with patients, especially those rendering dental treatment. All three authors seem to be knowledgeable in the field.
Features: The book covers all areas of oral medicine in a system-by-system approach, detailing the various diseases/disorders that can occur as well the various modes of treatment and the indications/contraindications for dental treatment. The book is well written and the subject matter easy to follow and understand. The only shortcoming is a scarcity of helpful illustrations. The use of more pictures could aid in one's overall understanding of the subject matter.
Assessment: This book covers a large amount of material in a brief yet efficient manner, giving us a good understanding of oral medicine.
