Anyone involved either theoretically or practically in the upbringing and education of young people is, even if only unconsciously, trying to make them happy. Accordingly, happiness was an obvious and explicit goal of education in the early days of the field as an academic discipline. Today, surprisingly, there is little mention of it. That is the starting point for this book: beginning with views of happiness in antiquity, it traces educational reflections on happiness from the Enlightenment to the present day. It then inquires into possible reasons for the current marginalization of the topic. The book concludes with an invitation to give greater consideration again to the complexity of the topic of happiness in education & even though there is no educational action that is ultimately capable of guaranteeing happiness. German description: Wer in die Erziehung und Bildung junger Menschen involviert ist wird sich vermutlich wunschen, dass sie glucklich sind bzw. werden. Entsprechend war Gluck in den wissenschaftlichen Anfangen der Padagogik selbstverstandliches Erziehungsziel. Heute ist davon relativ wenig die Rede. Hier setzt das Buch ein: Ausgehend von antiken Gluckspositionen wird die Reflexion des Glucks als Erziehungsziel von der Aufklarungspadagogik bis heute nachgezeichnet und moglichen Grunden fur die Randstandigkeit des Themas heute nachgegangen. Am Ende mochte das Buch dazu einladen, die Tiefendimensionen des Glucks als menschlichem Grundstreben in der Padagogik wieder starker zu berucksichtigen.
