Professor Gary Butler is a Consultant in Paediatric & Adolescent Medicine and Endocrinology at University College Hospital in London and holds an Honorary Personal Clinical. He has established an adolescent endocrine service at UCLH, and is the Chair of the ESPE Gender Dysphoria Working Group. In 2018, he was the host of the first ESPE Science Symposium on 'The Science of Gender'.

Professor Jeremy Kirk has published over 140 peer reviewed articles, chapters and books. He is a Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist at Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, an Honorary Professor University of Birmingham and University of Wolverhampton, as well as Clinical Director NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN), West Midlands.

Description: This is the second edition of a handbook that covers all topics in pediatric endocrinology. It is very vital due to the complexities of the field and the rapidity with which the field is evolving today.
Purpose: The purpose is to present all areas of pediatric endocrinology in a brief, bulleted format in a quick, to-the-point reference guide.
Audience: The book is written for any healthcare professionals involved in the care of children who might have endocrine disorders. Thus, it is intended for pediatric residents, primary care physicians, pediatric endocrine fellows-in-training, and pediatric nurse practitioners.
Features: The book is unique in that it is not written in complete sentences but is in outline format such that readers can find information quickly. This format is terse, but the topics are covered well. The diabetes chapter is complete, in bullet format, and lists blood glucose units in mmol/L versus mg/dl, requiring conversion. The obesity chapter is novel and covers the endocrine consequences of obesity, which illustrates the role of the endocrinologist in pediatric obesity.
Assessment: The book is of medium quality due to the outline format, but it is an adequate, updated replacement of the first edition.
