Overview

The action takes place during the Franco-Prussian War. The German occupiers are releasing a Normandy stagecoach from winter Rouen, which includes representatives of the affluent sections of society, two nuns and a fat prostitute nicknamed Pampushka. At first, the Greek ladies unite against this unpleasant passenger, but when they are hungry, they willingly indulge in the provisions she has reserved and forget about their enmity. During the overnight stop, the Prussian officer refuses to allow the stagecoach to continue until Pampushka surrenders to him. On the way back, her companions shun her and, when she is hungry, do not offer her to share a meal.
