Description: This book describes the current concepts and principles of management of many common and uncommon pediatric urological disorders.
Purpose: The purpose is to show the practicing urologist where pediatric urology is going and how new discoveries are being applied in this subspecialty. These objectives are important, because pediatric urology has changed significantly over the past 10 to 15 years. In general, the objectives are met.
Audience: The book is written for practicing urologists. I think that it will be useful for general urologists, residents, and students rotating in pediatric urology, as well as primary care specialists who treat a child with a pediatric urological problem. The editor is an internationally recognized authority in pediatric urology.
Features: The book does a nice job covering many common pediatric urological conditions, including emergencies, undescended testes, prenatal hydronephrosis, vesicoureteral reflux, hypospadias, voiding dysfunction, and neuropathic bladder, as well as rare disorders such as bladder exstrophy and urological tumors. Some areas, such as urinary tract infection, spermatic cord torsion, complications of circumcision, and genital anomalies other than hypospadias would benefit from a more thorough discussion.
Assessment: Currently there are few books that provide a nice summary of current pediatric urological principles. This book will be useful for any individual who desires such a review.
