Overview

Peggy's Diary 1948

Was written by a Welsh girl, Peggy, in 1948, only 3 years after the end of World War II. During the war, she will have experienced rationing, shortages and bombings, This may have led to anxiety. Learning to live with a reduced nutrient intake and a lack of luxuries. Also, she may have witnessed prisoners of war working in the local fields and farms. The war must have been a terrifying period in which to grow up. Her diary appears to cover a rather important year in her life.

While reading through the diary, you will notice how different life was in 1948. No smartphones, no social media, no games consoles or the internet, and a black and white television was a luxury that only the well-off could afford.

Cars were not on every driveway. In fact, they were not that common, usually only those with very good jobs and or the well-off could afford cars. Car ownership was a dream for many. Also, petrol was still rationed. Most people either walked or cycled for local journeys, while longer journeys entailed using buses and or trains.

People relied on newspapers for their daily news, also local gossip was a great source of information. Some of the gossip may have been fake news or stupid made up stories.

This e-book diary provides a fantastic insight into Peggy's life in 1948.
